With us you watch while we test, weigh and calculate your gold. That way you can follow exactly how your price comes about.

How the valuation works

1. Visual check and material identification. We inspect the hallmark (333, 585, 750) and test the material with our Goldscope SD515 by Fischer. You can read more about the device below.
2. Weighing. Each piece is weighed individually on a calibrated precision scale. You can read the display along with us.
3. Daily price calculation. We follow the daily LBMA Gold Price in euros per gram of fine gold, the globally recognised reference for the gold trade. We walk you through the calculation step by step.
4. Payout. Immediately in cash or by bank transfer if you prefer. We charge no fees.

The test itself only takes a few minutes. Afterwards you decide in your own time whether you want to sell.

How we test

The Goldscope SD515 by Fischer Instrumente (made in Germany) works with X-ray fluorescence. Put simply, the piece is briefly irradiated and the device measures which metals it contains and in what proportion. Your advantage: no scratch on the piece, no acid, and the gold alloy readable on the display right away.

How to recognise your gold

You will find the gold content as a small stamp, the hallmark. It is usually inside a ring, on the clasp of a chain or on the back of a pendant. The number gives the gold content in parts per thousand:

• 333 means 33.3 % gold, which is 8 carat.
• 585 means 58.5 % gold, which is 14 carat.
• 750 means 75 % gold, which is 18 carat.
• 916 means 91.6 % gold, which is 22 carat. Many bangles from Turkey carry this stamp, for example.
• 999 stands for fine gold, in other words 24 carat.

A hallmark is a good first clue but no guarantee. Stamps can be worn or incorrect, which is why we also measure every piece with the Goldscope.

How the price is made up

The purchase value comes from three figures: weight, fineness and the daily price. A simple example: a 10 gram chain stamped 585 contains 5.85 grams of pure gold. That fine gold content is then multiplied by the current price per gram of fine gold.

The LBMA Gold Price is set twice every working day, at 11:30 and 16:00 German time, and the daily buying price follows it. Because the rate moves, the same ring can be worth different amounts on different days. We calculate without flat rates or mixed calculations, each piece on its own.

What we buy

• Old gold jewellery: chains, rings, pendants, bangles and earrings, even if broken or single
• Gold coins and bars: for example Krugerrand, Maple Leaf or Vienna Philharmonic, and bars of every size
• Dental gold: in various alloys too, separated on site and settled properly
• Scrap gold: bent or damaged pieces, old spectacle frames, odd earrings

We are happy to look at gemstones, branded hallmarks and old heirlooms separately. Sometimes a piece is worth more than its pure material weight.

What to bring and a few tips

A valid identity document is required by law, as we record every purchase in our precious metals trading ledger. Nothing else, and you do not need an appointment. Bring the gold just as it is, there is no need to clean or sort it.

• Do not leave anything out. Even small items such as a single stud or a broken chain have a gold value.
• Think about stones. We look at pieces with gemstones or diamonds separately before naming a price.
• Take your time. You do not have to decide on the spot. Ask if anything is unclear.
• Comparing is fine. Just make sure the weight and fineness are determined openly in front of you.
