You can speak with us in German or Turkish. We help you in whichever language you prefer. At our shop on Wengengasse we offer wedding ring selection, gold buying and jewellery advice.
At Mein Juwelier in Ulm you deal directly with Nebahat Yildiz and her husband Ibrahim. We advise in German and Turkish, whichever you prefer. With jewellery, gold and family celebrations, it is simply easier when you can discuss everything in your own language.
Where we advise in Turkish
- Wedding ring selection. We explain every detail in Turkish: material (yellow gold, white gold, platinum), width, choice of stones and engraving.
- Gold buying. Payment at the daily price for old gold, coins or dental gold, with an open calculation. We do the calculation in front of you.
- Repairs and adjustments. Shortening chains, polishing wedding rings, changing watch batteries.
In short: whether it is wedding rings, selling gold or a repair, you can discuss every topic with us entirely in Turkish.
Wedding rings and engagements: unhurried, with the family
With engagements and weddings it is often not just the couple who decide. Parents, siblings or grandparents want to have their say, and not everyone speaks German equally well. That is no problem for us. We explain material, profile, width, stones and engraving so that everyone at the table can follow.
For a wedding ring consultation it is best to allow 60 to 90 minutes. We carry classic models from respected German manufacturers, are an official partner of Kühnel Trauringe, IVA Jewelry and PALIDO Diamonds, and can also create custom designs. We recommend booking an appointment for wedding rings so we can give you our full attention.
Selling gold: every step in front of you
This is how gold buying works with us:
- Testing: we check the fineness without contact using X-ray fluorescence analysis, with no acid and no damage to the piece.
- Weighing: each piece is weighed individually on calibrated precision scales while you watch.
- Calculation: we work from the daily LBMA Gold Price in euros per gram of fine gold and walk you through every step, in Turkish if you like.
- Payment: in cash or by bank transfer if you prefer, on the same day. We charge no fees.
Please bring a valid ID document. This is required by law, as we record every purchase in our precious metals register. You do not need an appointment to sell gold.
Turkish gold coins and 22-carat jewellery
In many Turkish families, gold coins are simply part of weddings (Düğün), engagements and births. We buy and sell Turkish gold coins in 22 carat (916) at the daily rate:
- Ata Lira, also called Cumhuriyet Altını (Atatürk design)
- Reşat Altını with its Ottoman design
- Ziynet coins, popular as a traditional gift
You may already know the sizes: Çeyrek is a quarter, Yarım a half, Tam the whole coin, Gremse two and a half times and Beşli five times. On request we can present the coins in a gift case. We also check your own coins on site for weight, fineness and minting.
Alongside 585 and 750 gold, we also carry traditional 22-carat pieces. Incidentally, 916 means 91.6 per cent fine gold, which equals 22 carat.
What our Turkish-speaking customers value
Many of our regular customers speak both German and Turkish. We simply switch to whichever language you feel more comfortable in, and happily go back and forth within a single appointment, for example when family members want to join in different languages.
Some families have been coming to us for two generations when important occasions come round. Other services where we are glad to advise you in Turkish:
- Ear piercing with the Studex System75 using sterile single-use cassettes, also for children from about six months, accompanied by a parent
- Jewellery repairs and remodelling, such as broken chains or loose stones
- Engraving on rings, pendants and bracelets
- Watch service such as battery changes and strap adjustments
